Urban Watersheds Flood Needs Assessment, Austin, Texas

Loomis Austin served as sole contractor for the translation of existing hydrologic and hydraulic models to HEC-1 and HEC-RAS format for 17 urban watersheds in and around Austin, Texas. In evaluating its collection of existing hydrologic and hydraulic models for the downtown and surrounding urbanized areas, the City of Austin's Stormwater Management Division discovered
that its models database included a variety of modeling platforms (e.g. TR-20, HEC-1, Austin Standard Method, WSP2, HEC-2). Loomis Austin was contracted to translate all existing hydrologic models to HEC-1 and all existing hydraulic models to HEC-RAS. Work included: (1) identification and compilation of all existing models; (2) where possible, implementation of existing models using the existing platform; (3) field measurement of more than 400 bridges for coding into HEC-RAS; (4) translation of existing models to HEC-1 and HEC-RAS; (5) trouble-shooting of problematic results including field assessment of problem areas; and (6) systematic documentation and comparison of results between previous and updated modeling platforms.
